Tessa Briscoe
Hometown: Meadow Lake, SK (Treaty 6 Territory)
1. Something interesting about yourself?
I grew up on a cattle ranch. I spent a lot of my childhood chasing after my older brothers on dirtbikes, bottle feeding baby calves, and helping out during haying season once I was old enough to drive a tractor. I'll never forget accidentally running my dad's old Volvo (that didn't have any brakes at the time) into the trees after coming down a hill. Thankfully he just laughed and helped me back it out
2. Favorite YXE Restaurant?
Prairie Sun Brewery! I love the pet-friendly patio, and they keep my fav cider from Crossmount on tap.
3. If you could interview anyone alive or dead for a podcast or talk show, who would it be?
Likely my Grandpa Briscoe. He was many things including a salesman, school bus driver, rancher, and small-town curling legend! He also published a book and was a writer for the Western Producer for many years. He always had so many stories and loved to entertain us.
4. Favorite WOD?
I look forward to Murph every year. I also like anything with heavy squat cleans or snatches!
5. Favourite CrossFit movement?
Oly lifts for sure! HSPU and strict pull ups are up there as well.
6. What is your "go to" work out song?
Mutt by blink-182
7. Favorite superhero and why?
Venom! He's not really a "superhero" but I like that he's kind of a bad guy who turns out to have a soft heart and decides he wouldn't want to hurt innocent people! He's also super strong, funny, and has some neat tricks
8. What can someone expect when they come to one of your classes?
I like to keep things light-hearted and celebrate everyone who comes to class!
9. Do you have any special memories/achievements during your time so far with Ashlar?
Oh I just love the Ashlar community! I think what's most special is getting feedback from members. I've had a few folks tell me that they feel really great about themselves after they leave my classes, and I love that! I've been integrating a trauma informed lens to my coaching practice, and am really interested in taking courses in Trauma Informed Weight Lifting.
10. What keeps you busy when you are not coaching CrossFit?
My two dogs, family/friends, and my job! I'm a Registered Social Worker

Adam Solie
Hometown: Saskatoon, SK
1. Something interesting about yourself?
I love music! I have been playing the fiddle/violin since I was 5 years old, and also play a bit of guitar.
2. Favorite YXE Restaurant?
Either Keo’s Kitchen or Bon Temps Cafe
3. If you could interview anyone alive or dead for a podcast or talk show, who would it be?
My Grandpa. He worked for years as a sales rep for Molsons, as well as a statistician for the Roughriders and met so many interesting people through his work. The two of us shared a deep connection through sports and I always loved hearing stories about his work and the people he met. It would be great to be able to sit down and hear them again!
4. Favorite WOD?
My favourite WODs are either long chippers with a variety of movements, or WODs with a moderate barbell mixed with some bodyweight movements. So if I had to choose I'd say The Chief, Holleyman, or Filthy 50.
5. Favorite CrossFit movement?
Power Cleans or Toes-to-Bar
6. What is your go to work out song?
Doesn't matter to me! Whatever is playing works!
7. Favorite super hero and why? Not really a super hero person...but if I had to choose one it would be Superman because flying would be a great way to get around.
8. What can someone expect when they come to one of your classes?
I try to have fun and connect with all the athletes in each class! When I coach I try and always make sure the athletes in my class get what they need from the workout that day. Sometimes we feel 100% and are ready to set a new PR, some days just making it to the gym is a victory. Regardless of how an athlete is feeling, I'm always willing to work with them to either push them, or tailor the WOD to something that gets them moving and leaving the gym feeling good!
I have lots of personal experience scaling and modifying workouts as well, so I will always find a way to help navigate injuries and keep our members working out. I know how it can feel to look at the daily WOD knowing you might not be able to do any of the movements that day. If you get yourself to the gym, we'll find a workout that you can do!
9. Do you have any special memories/achievements during your time so far with Ashlar?
Aside from the health and happiness it has brought me, and continues to bring me as a regular part of my everyday life, it is the community that has created so many memories for me! I have met so many great people through Ashlar and created some amazing friendships as well!
I think my biggest personal achievement in my time with Ashlar has been the work I’ve put in to make my movements as technically proficient as I can.
10. What keeps you busy when you are not coaching CrossFit?
When I’m not at the gym I’m usually hanging out with Alyssa and our families. I also love sports so I can usually be found doing something active, or watching as many live sporting events as possible, in person or on TV.

Jesse Dziad

4. Favorite WOD? Filthy Fifty, I love long gritty workouts
5. Favorite CrossFit Movement? Double Unders
6. What is your go-to work out song? We Got Love – Sigala & Ella Henderson
7. Favorite Superhero and why?
My superheros are all of the healthcare workers who came to work every day during this pandemic. We would not be where we are today if it were not for them. Every single person played a critical role and I am proud to call many of those people friends and colleagues.
8. What can someone expect when they come to one of your classes?
My classes are all about high energy and the music to match. The hardest part of working out is getting to the gym; once you’re there it’s my job to make sure you have some fun or at least motivate you to get through the workouts that we throw at you!
9. Special memories/achievements?
I've been doing CrossFit longer than I would like to admit and I have very fond memories of coaching bootcamps. Many of my bootcampers transitioned into the regular CrossFit Program and many of them are still working out at Ashlar. This is a testament to the amazing community and environment that we have at Ashlar.
10. What keeps you busy when you are not coaching CrossFit?
As my Instagram will tell you I am a traveler, fitness enthusiast and coffee fanatic, as such I am someone who is always on the go. I am an occupational therapist by training. I have an amazing partner, Josh, and the cutest French bulldog, Victor, who are on this journey with me whether that is weekends at the lake, sipping wine on a patio, running down along the river or jet setting to a warm tropical destination.

Jilene Cowden
Hometown: Aberdeen, SK
1. Something interesting about yourself: My husband and I love to travel. We took 40 days and travelled down the coast from Vancouver to Tijuana, Mexico sleeping in the vehicle or tent along the way. We stayed in Tofino for just over a month, sleeping in our boler with our 9 month old child. We got the chance to go to Churchill, MB to see the polar bears. We spent a month in Nepal hiking around the Everest Region and into Everest base camp. We spent time in Thailand, Panama and the Cooke Islands exploring and soaking up the sun. The most intense trip was taking a 3 year old and 8 month old to Australia for a month. Taking an 8 month old on a trip that takes 27 hours to get to the destination is no joke ha.
2. Favorite YXE Restaurant? Una! They have delicious pizza and flights of wine!
3. If you could interview anyone alive or dead for a podcast or talk show, who would it be?
Jillian Harris. She is awesome. She does so much for her community and for Canadian Businesses. She is an entrepreneur and a boss babe. Sort of reminds me of Tarra Hall!
4. Favorite WOD? DT!
5. Favorite Crossfit movement? The snatch and fast hang power cleans
6. What is your go-to work out song? Kind of depends on my mood...sometimes I love hip hop/rap to get me going ooooorrrrrr sometimes I just need some Britney Spears.
7. Favorite superhero and why? I had to ask my sons as I am not really a superhero gal. Kain said Spiderman. When asked why he responded "I don't know". Max said his favorite superhero was Kain (his brother lol). I asked Max why and he responded "because me love him”
8. What can someone expect when they come to one of your classes? I like to try and push people out of their comfort zones while making sure movements are safe. I LOVE seeing people do things they never thought they could do. It is awesome to see and is amazing to be even a small part of. I like to try and help tweek movements or attempt to give different cues for members, to try and get people to their 'ah ha' moment where the lift or movements start to click! Expect a lot of encouragement, hollering and me laughing at my own bad jokes when coming to my classes!
9. Do you have any special memories/achievements during your time so far with Ashlar? Growing up I didn't have a great relationship with exercise.....like as in, I just never did it. I didn't enjoy it, and thought people who were working out were just trying to 'be skinny'. When I started at Crossfit, I saw all of these kick ass women working out to be healthy, strong and doing it for fun. It changed my mindset with exercise and nutrition. I started to want to lift heavier, do all the gymnastics and get the shoulders, traps and lats that I was seeing all around the gym and envious of. Nowadays I come to Ashlar for my mental health, getting a sweat on, and to socialize.
10. What keeps you busy when you are not coaching CrossFit? My husband and I have two very busy boys (3 and 5 years old) that seem to never stop moving, so they keep me on my toes! We recently adopted a very sweet 4 year old dog Noka. Our family enjoys time at the lake, spending time with family, travelling and hiking. When I'm not with family or at Ashlar I am working as a Registered Nurse in the MRI/vascular department at RUH or in the ER at City Hospital.

Shane Carriere
Hometown: Sweet ol’ PA (Prince Albert), SK

2. Favorite YXE Restaurant? Lavva or Las Palapas
3. If you could interview anyone alive or dead for a podcast or talk show, who would it be? Maybe Robin Williams or Dave Chappelle just to have a good laugh.
4. Favorite WOD? I’d have to say wods like Holleyman, Ship or wods that have ladders(not real ones).
5. Favorite CrossFit movement? The clean along with things like yolk carries, parrellette HSPU and Overhead squats.
6. What is your go to work out song? Stadium Pow wow or Beast
7. Favorite super hero and why? Other than Graham Blue, The Hulk because Hulk.
8. What can someone expect when they come to one of your classes? I usually have 3 agendas in class, 1st is make the environment as comfortable as possible. 2nd is to help people move better, I find the better they move, the more they enjoy the experience. 3rd is to push people out of their comfort zones. I believe that you will build more confidence when you can prove to yourself that you are able to do something you weren’t sure you could, even if it is just getting one more burpee.
9. Do you have any special memories/achievements during your time so far with Ashlar? My wife and I used to bring our now 3-1/2 year old to the 6am class, back when we used to sit around the whiteboard “listening” to Coach Glendon go over the workout. Our son, Chance, was just learning how to walk but had not taken more then a step or two. He then decided to leave mom and walk a fair distance towards the middle of the circle before falling. Everyone cheered as this was the first time they all had seen him walk at all. This story comes to mind because it goes to show that Ashlar has created a place where the community is more like family.
10. What keeps you busy when you are not coaching CrossFit? When not coaching, I’m busy alongside my wife(Tami) raising our 2 boys, Chance and Zeke.

1. Something interesting about yourself: I was a beekeeper in New Zealand and on a pacific island called Niue when I took a year off of University.
2. Favourite YXE Restaurant: LasPalapas is kind of the go to. It used to be Mr. Rizo's but since they closed we haven't found a suitable replacement yet.
3. If you could interview anyone alive or dead for a podcast or talk show, who would it be? Ben Bergeron immediately comes to mind... however he posed an interesting thought recently on one of his own podcasts- imagine what you could learn from yourself 5 to 10 years from now? So it would be pretty cool I think to interview a 50 year old myself.
4. Favourite WOD: any grinder-type wod greater than 20 minutes. I love to challenge my mental capacity in this time domain.
5. Favourite Crossfit movement: I could list many, but heavy thrusters are fun.
6. What is your go to workout song? Any kind of heavy metal. The heavier the better!

9. Do you have any special memories/ achievements during your time so far with Ashlar? I've been around for a while, so there are many celebrations of other athlete's PRs, my PRs, but the best memories are from when we can get together as a broad community. Be it an Open workout, a gingerbread house competition or any other event where we get to hang out with members from the entire community.
What keeps you busy when you are not coaching CrossFit? My kids Ian and Emeryn (who many members in the evening know) with my wife Megan and our two dogs. Whether it's just hanging out with them at the park, going to the lake or the mountains to hike or just being outside as a family. Monday to Friday I keep busy as the Executive Director of Acute Care in the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Alyssa Solie
Hometown: Southey, SK
1. Something interesting about yourself? While I was completing my Kinesiology degree, I volunteered as a student trainer for the U of S Huskie Athletics Women’s Basketball team! I was even lucky enough to receive a team championship ring!

9. Do you have any special memories/achievements during your time so far with Ashlar? While achieving milestones like getting my first pull up or hitting a certain weight on a lift is super rewarding, I think what I’m most proud of is the work I’ve put into shifting my mindset! If you knew me when I first started bootcamps 5 years ago, you would likely know that I was incredibly hard on myself and often had a negative mindset. It’s a lot of work to reverse the negative self-talk we have in our heads, but I’m proud to say that I’ve come a long way with my self-compassion and CrossFit and the Ashlar community have played a huge part in that!
10. What keeps you busy when you are not coaching CrossFit? I work as an Occupational Therapist with the Saskatchewan Health Authority! In my spare time you can find me hanging out with Adam and our family and friends, watching Rider and Raptor games, spending time outside, and listening to podcasts!
